‘Ukraine’s Invasion Has Begun’ Sanctions Begin As Germany Halts Nord Stream 2; Putin Issues Warning

Russian President Putin’s decision to recognise two separatist territories in eastern Ukraine has thrown the world into turmoil. Putin’s move has reaffirmed fears of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by sending Russian forces into the region. Putin has said that the Minsk peace agreement on Ukraine no longer existed and warned Ukraine against joining NATO.

Putin’s move drew immediate international condemnation and the West is now imposing sanctions against Russia. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has suspended the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project with Russia. UK has imposed sanctions on 5 Russian banks, and has frozen assets of 3 wealthy individuals.
